What I’m enjoying this week (Vol 1)

Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules For Life – Chapter 1

In the first chapter of “12 Rules for Life,” Jordan Peterson talks about lobsters as a way of showing the concept of dominance and submission. He talks about how lobsters exhibit dominant and submissive behavior through their posture and the way they move, and how this is related to the production of certain chemicals in their brains.

Basically, Peterson is using lobsters as an example of how our posture and body language can have an impact on our mental and emotional states. He argues that when we stand up straight and assert ourselves, we’re more likely to feel confident and in control while slouching or looking down can make us feel submissive and uncertain.

There’s more to it. But that’s the simple breakdown. I’m enjoying the book so far.

Samoyed Barking Complete Guide (With Tips from Owners)

This is one I wish I didn’t have to read :). She’s barking mostly because she has a ton of pent up energy. These are the solutions given:

  • Plenty of exercise
  • Practice learning new tricks and commands
  • Stimulate their brain with puzzle games and scent work
  • Play with your dog more
  • Hire a dog walker or pet sitter if you need to be gone for long periods of time
  • Rotate her toys so she doesn’t get bored or tired of seeing the same toys dall the time

We’re trying them all! We’ve also started to implement some “timeouts” for a few seconds in a separate room to show her that the fun stops as soon as she barks and that it’s not a way to get things. We’re trying!
